Emanuela Franchini’s new self portrait series “On Your Face” hit me like a steak to the head. The striking images mix food and sex, as well as emphasize the statement, “You are what you eat”. Could you image if we all advertised like this what our last meals were? I bet fast food would be a fashion faux pas…
I asked her for her take on this unique set of self portraits. She told me:
“Taking self portraits is quite challenging. You have to set the camera, put yourself in position and you only have few seconds to make sure you are going to get the picture you had in mind. So why not add an extra level of complexity by balancing stuff on your face preventing you from seeing? Food seemed the obvious choice. I love cooking and I love eating but I wonder if sometimes we just stuff our faces with food without thinking about what we eat.
All the food used in the pictures has not gone to waste and provided a good meal. The eggs and spaghetti were a bit chewy though…”
Here are some more of the striking images from the series.
