Our food, as with everything else in our lives, has been consolidated and is now more manufactured than grown. Big Food has yet again done it… you may have recently read that they have pressured the US government into qualifying pizza as a vegetable (or better, maintaining its designation). There had been a push to clean up school cafeterias and focus more on fresh vegetables and whole grains. This would have pushed out the big frozen food companies, decimating their profits, as contracts with schools across the country count for a HUGE amount of money. They got scared, and now pizza is a vegetable. They can call it a vegetable because of the tomato sauce… sigh… tomato is a fruit…
Our friends at Frugal Dad have put together this great infographic detailing how our food is now controlled by only a few companies, and how we are relying more and more on centralized food productions. Happy US Thanksgiving!
