Here are some sweet examples of creativity in the kitchen that will save you money and add some great storage features. Take an old dresser, paint it, and put a counter top or wood block of your choice on it, and you have yourself a kitchy kitchen island!
UpCycling
A not-so-new but very Yuppy term seems to be all the rage on the net right now. People re-purpose old stuff and create works of functional art for their home. It’s a cool concept and one that can help ease a bit on the mass amount of consumption of resources we currently use. So if you can’t afford that “New” kitchen, why not go for “New to You” and get creative?

Distressed is Best
As you can see, this dresser could probably be picked up for around $50 at a thrift store. The craft folks then painted and used the “Shabby Chic” technique to give the island some character.

How about a File Cabinet?
As you can see, these techniques are not limited to only dressers. You could you a filing cabinet, an old “shop” table, multiple book shelves… The list goes on. I’m now thinking of converting a wardrobe into a pantry. You can even use the mirror to write messages to the rest of the family!
