Smoked Salmon Vodka: Alaska Distillery’s line of infused vodkas
It seems all the rage today to flavor booze. I’m not just talking about adding some juice, or tossing in a few olives, I’m talking about adding flavor during distillation, or infusing afterwards. I remember when Absolut came out with their Citron… What??? Lemon in vodka? Try smoked salmon…
Alaska Distillery has taken the bait, swallowed the hook, and are reeling in orders for their smoked salmon vodka. They have introduced a vodka distilled with smoked salmon that promises a smokey and savory taste. They describe the vodka as:
We use our trademarked distillation process to create this rare vodka that has a distinctive, smoky, savory taste that is perfect in a Bloody Mary or an Oyster Shooter.
They offer a variety of flavored vodkas and gin, from birch syrup, blueberry, cranberry, rhubarb, and yes… even smoked salmon.
My two cents
So… as much as I want to try this ichthy-booze (I’m sure it would be killer in a caesar), I am starting to tire at the non stop “re-invention” of a perfectly good thing! Brew some hooch from the fish itself. THAT would impress me. There just seems to be too many “flavored this…” or “bacon that…”, don’t even get me started on fucking cupcakes. I can’t wait until people realize that trend is gone with the Hammer pants. But hey, we live in the age of excess, I guess there could be worse things than yummy fish vodka… or even yummy grilled cheese vodka. I guess I’m just waiting for the next Hollandaise instead of the next Baconaise. I may be waiting a while…
