Soooo… yes.  We Canadians are an enigmatic bunch.  With our hot chicks, great craft beer, hockey, comedians, pizza burgers, and more lakes than the rest of the world COMBINED, we have a lot to be proud of.  This, however, is not one I’m not yet prepared to fully back.

Jones Soda has recently release Poutine soda.  That’s right, eh.  Poutine soda.  Liquid french fries, cheese curds, and gravy.  I’m sure many of my French Canadian friends are “Tabernac”-ing all over the place.

It seems as if everyone is trying to push the boundaries of food, twisting classic and amazing recipes or techniques into a phantasmagorical nightmare of processed edible shock factor.  I am reaching out to the world.  Stop the madness!

Jones Soda makes REALLY good soda pop.  They do!  But this… scares me.  They describe the limited edition Poutine soda as:

“a nice balance of rich, savory gravy over a starchy potato base, and accented with those fatty, cheesy notes you expect in a plate of poutine.”

I have not tried this yet, so perhaps it is the best thing since Champagne, but I think  I’ll be sticking to the solid form.

Throwing a poker party with friends needs a lot of planning. You have to think of some good dishes to serve to your guests. Some of the popular foods served for poker nights are chips, peanuts, pretzels, and pizzas. Other hosts serve heavy snacks such as sandwiches and tacos. It is very important to plan your food accordingly because most poker night gatherings are attended by men. It is important to pick out a few recipes and food ideas when it comes to these kinds of events making them feel relaxed and full all throughout the night.

Roasted pork is another good food choice that you can serve for a poker night. When cooking this, use a crock pot so you can incorporate any of your favorite barbecue sauces and add Worcestershire sauce. For an added flavor, put in some salt and pepper. Cooking time is about 4-8 hours, depending on the amount of heat you use and the amount of servings. Other things can be done in this long amount of down time. While waiting for your roasted pork to cook, you can prepare your poker table. Some people practice playing poker through poker gaming websites like party poker. They can hone their skills in playing poker, while novices can familiarize themselves with the basic rules and hands that are used in the game. After playing a couple of rounds, you will have an idea on how to play every kind of hand that you’re dealt with. The pork will be ready by the time your poker buddies arrive for the much-awaited poker night.

The kind of food that you are going to serve during a poker night should be simple to prepare, easy-to-eat, and most importantly, sufficient enough to allow at least 2 servings per visitor. It is recommended to prepare different kinds of appetizers for your poker party. You can serve a tray full of meat, cheese, and vegetables that guests can pass around easily. They can help themselves to tidbits of these foods in between poker games. You can also choose to add some spicy appetizers into the mix or go for some easy to prepare appetizers like coleslaw, potato salads, and pasta salads. Bear in mind that food that can get messy like Buffalo wings might stain your poker table. So if you are preparing this kind of dish during your poker night, take extra care in serving it to your guests.

If you are into home-made pizza, you can prepare your own using fresh ingredients found at your local supermarket. If you feel that you’re too tired to cook it, you can always choose to order at pizza places like Papa John’s.

Sly Fox Brewery has created a can that solves the issue you may (or may not) have with craft beers.  Smell.  Part of the allure of the craft is the gift of elegant smells that coincide with their unique flavours.  A traditional can has a small opening, limiting the smell.  The 360 lid offers a completely topless solution.

Jim Galligan made this GIF showing how this can opens, and transforms it into the closest thing to a glass you’re going to get… unless you use a glass.  He also writes that the lid and opening are smooth, safe, and will not taint your beer with blood as you slice your lips on the rim.  While I admire the idea, and think it would DEFINITELY come in handy for certain beer drinking occasions, I don’t feel this should become the norm of the beer can.

One of the amazing qualities of the traditional beer can is the portability and ability to even tip over, losing only a little.  This can locks you to a seat in a controlled environment.  That being said, if I’m not out drinking on Safari, I’m probably at home or in a location that allows me to use an actual glass, negating any real benefits to this soup style beer can…

Currently, the lid is only available with Sly Fox‘s Helles Golden German style Lager.  Kudos on doing this guys, I hope to see more of it around the craft beer circuit, and served from food truck everywhere.

Oh Canada, land of innovation, hockey, and now Pizza Burgers.  Boston Pizza Canada unveiled their new product in a (sigh, its been done) fake April Fool’s kind of way, announcing the product leading up to April Fool’s, and launching it around that time, causing (ooh… ahh…) speculation.  Marketing tactics aside, this looks like one helluva take on mixing the coveted fast foods of pizza and hamburgers.

Basically, they have wrapped a burger in pizza dough, added some pizza toppings inside and on top, oh yeah… and cheeeese.  They did a 5 part series about the release, mixing pizza + ??? to create their next special promotion.  It starts out with a Chef, trying unique combinations such as pizza beer, and pizza chocolate cake.  It ends with a road trip and some distinctly stereotypical Canadians enjoying the first Pizza burgers.  Here’s part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, and below… part 5.

Being a Canadian, I can’t help feel a little pride that this bad boy is North of the 49th parallel.  I remember my early (legal) drinking days where we would go to Boston Pizza and get “team pitchers”, basically just really, really, really big pitchers of beer.  Although I haven’t heard any announcements yet, I’m sure these will show up in the States before too long.  Remember Burger King’s and Pizza Hut’s try at Pizza Burgers?  I think this takes the pie.

This unbelievable sink comes to us from Tim Odom  of Kitchen + Bath Artisans, and shows us that design can be functional in a new way.  It has a built in cutting board, colander, multiple inserts, and probably will even play Margaritaville while using it.

The product is now discontinued, but you can still get something from the creator for what I imaging to be a very pretty penny.

Dear Internet,

I heard you like bacon, so I made this for you.

Happy Easter!

This is true, the internet does love bacon.  This cool idea isn’t overly difficult to accomplish, so if you’re feeling like baconning up your Easter breakfast, give it a try!  He made a mold out of a baking dish and tinfoil, then weaved some bacon.  That made one side.  Repeat, and you got yourself a hollow egg!

The Freedom Flask is the perfect accessory for those who wish to drink wherever, whenever they want.  Going to a concert and don’t want to buy $10 beer?  No problem.  College exam time and you need your “little muse”?  Drink up!  You can break all the rules of society, and get drunk in a completely socially irresponsible way.

Simply put on the fanny pack like apparatus, unzip your pants and pour away.  As you can see above, the awesomeness is slightly dulled by the fact that it appears this man is soon to drink his own urine, on the rocks.

The Freedom Flask was designed by some college students (shocker) who were constantly trying to sneak alcohol into Events and football games (and most likely class).  They claim that although there are other products out there that are similar, they fall short for the purposes of constant alcohol consumption.  They improved on the Ziplock bag, as well as other commercial products with two key features, a curved bottom and the nozzle being located at the bottom of the flask.  This positioning ensures you get every last drop of body heat warmed booze, as well as makes it convenient as it is easily accessible through the zipper.  Where was this in High School?
