Bad wines… do they even exist?
I was looking to make a post about bad wines, mainly because I have a “good” wines category. Then I started feeling a little guilty, like I was picking on the small kid in school. I’m sure the wine maker’s worked hard, are looking to turn a profit, AND STAY IN BUSINESS… so what exactly is a bad wine?
I can tell you I’ve had several experiences while picking out some hooch at the liquor store, where I see someone in deep contemplation, staring at the $6.00 bottles and finally picking something that is barely fit to mull, or even cook with. So, depending on my mood, I offer my suggestions or don’t, and grab a bottle of something for myself. So what is a bad wine?
Starting with some of the odd things they make wine out of (dead mice, Yak’s milk, carrots…) I can say that there are definitely wines out there that I do NOT like. There are also many made out of those beautiful little orbs of flavor we call grapes that pucker my mouth and make me decline the second glass. But I’m sure some people out there actually like this crap!!!
A bad wine is in the eye of the beholder I guess, as I have had people pour me a glass of their favorite red, right out of the *ahem* fridge, with a look of such joy at how proud they are of there selection, and absolutely hated it. My taste buds ruined for a week, I still said “mmm, that’s *cough* nice” as tears came to my eyes. So when you see a bad review on something, think twice, just like you would for a movie. There is sometimes more to it than just listening to a critic, and you never know if you’ll miss out on a new favorite!
